double negative

For the project we had to use numerous compositions.
Some photo shop techniques I used were transform tool, edit color contrast, and flip image. To make a double negative I had to overlap two images and this is what I got.

Thea D Color Emphasis

I chose to make the main object of the picture in color to improve the overall compostition and draw the viewer's eye in, instead of looking at the background. All of the colored parts are not directly in the middle in order to follow the rule of thirds. For the crayon picture I adjusted the contrast so the green was brighter againt the blacks and grays. The bead picture also shows a long depth of field with the closer beads blurry and the farther ones clear.

In these pictures, I used the double negative concept to change the composition of the pictures. There is a variety of contrast in each piece; some have harder lines, like the first one with the various landscapes, while others have a more subtle color change, such as the close ups of the icicles and the pine needles.

All of these photo's follow the rule of thirds. I feel in the last one and the second one there is a lot of colour contrast. All of these have pretty good composition. In the first photo the boy to the right's head merges in with the mountain. They are all double negitives, but since the last one has three photos on top of eachother, you could consider them triple negitives.

Finding pictures to use for the double negative project took some strategy. I wanted to choose pictures with similar compositions, like if one picture had strong leading lines, i would want my other one to have them too. I used different techniques to create my pictures, like changing the opacity of the brush so both pictures would show through on top of each other, or just following the black reveals, white conceals rule so different parts of the photo would show through. I really like using color too, so I didn't choose to desaturate any of my photos.

All these pictures follow the rule of thirds by not having the second picture right in the middle. This improves the composition because the viewer doesn't look right in the center of the picture. Also, the opacity of the pictures on top is lowered to see through them into the bottom layers. In the last picture there was a lot of sky. By adding the flowers more space was used up so the picture looks complete. In the waterfall picture the books add color contrast to the original browns and greens.

Mirror images

For this project we had to shoot pictures of different themes and elements. I used different contrasts and colors in my project. I duplicated all me pictures so that there was more than one and so that they were all the same. Then i put them all together and rotated them so they would create the mirror effect.
